Libraries as a public good
A piece written for the Oxfordshire campaign to save the public libraries in 2010/2011.
http://scrawler.co.uk/sm1/2011/02/libraries-as-a-public-good/
Was published by the local press before rather better writers (e.g. Philip Pullman), lent their literary weight to the campaign. I cannot claim credit for a direct influence over this successful campaign, but this piece was published first.

The title speaks for itself.
Liberty at stake
http://www.nujcec.org/brussels/index.php/latest-news/past_evts/liberty-at-stake
Report from the influential Convention on Modern Liberty in London in January 2009, including video interviews with several leading personalities at the event (can be found on YouTube). Some of the themes of that convention on modern democracy were subsequently taken up by the present Cameron government (even if progress remains elusive).
