Maria Romanenko is a journalist, editor, and writer from Kyiv, Ukraine. When Russia started bombing her country, she followed her British partner to Poland and then the UK, and is currently living in Manchester with him. She is known for leading Hromadske International, an English-language Ukrainian publication, in 2018-2020 and her Ukraine reporting for outlets including the BBC, ITV, ABC News, and Sky News. In 2021, she led the publication of How We Will Get Crimea Back – a project that, among other issues, highlighted Russia’s systematic violations of human rights against Crimean Tatars and was distributed among UN leaders.
